Fruit ‘n spice
These baked pears are delicious hot or cold!
Ingredients
Makes a week’s worth
a few pinches of cinnamon
a few pinches of cardamon
a few pinches of powdered ginger
a pinch of nutmeg
a pinch of cloves
6-12 firm pears
1 lemon
a drizzle of maple syrup or honey
Preheat oven around 160-180 degrees.
Method
Preheat oven around 160-180 degrees.
Choose firm pears, peel, and chop in half. Massage lemon juice over them and your favourite spices.
Place face down on an oven proof tray that then gets covered in foil. The foil makes a cosy pear sauna that keeps the juices in! But it’s best if the foil doesn’t touch the pears. If you prefer, a dutch oven is another way to cook the pears.
Bake 20-40 min, depending on your oven and the firmness of the pears. Then flip over and bake some more with the foil/lid covering. This can take from 20-40 minutes.
Then take off the foil and bake until the pears caramelise. If the pears are too dry for this, add a wee bit more lemon juice. If you need to, you can add a few drops of maple syrup at this stage.
Take the seeds out with a spoon and store the pears in the fridge.
Delicious hot, warm or cold.
