Volunteering, give it a go!
Our Vollie of the month, Tony Perriam, has been a customer of the Co-op for 15 years and a volunteer for 12 months. We caught up with Tony to find out a little more about him.
Q: What is your favourite aspect of volunteering at the Co-op?
Tony: Getting to know the Co-op staff and customers.
Q: How did you find out about volunteering at the Co-op?
Tony: I think it was sign on the front window of the Co-op.
Q: What is your background?
Tony: I had a career in food science and technology until a few years ago. I still consult to businesses in the food industry, particularly on regulatory issues.
Q: What have you learnt as a volunteer at the Co-op?
Tony: The importance of order and cleanliness in retail, particularly now. And how many people are interested in unusual foods.
Q: What is your favourite food?
Tony: A good vegetable miso soup. Also, there’s always chocolate.
Q: What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a volunteer at the Co-op?
Tony: Don’t think twice – it’s all right. Give it a go and see what happens.
