CRACKING CLIMATE BY CRACKING CONSUMPTION
26th March, 2018

In April, the Blue Mountains Food Co-op will partner with the 2018 Varuna & Sydney Writers’ Festival and Blue Mountains Library and Cultural Centre to present Cracking Climate by Cracking Consumption, a thought-provoking discussion with leading thinkers on climate change and consumption Dr Joëlle Gergis and Richard Denniss.

In her book Sunburnt Country, climate scientist Dr Joëlle Gergis pieces together Australia’s climate history using historical documents, tree ring measurements and Indigenous seasonal calendars, and shows us how human activities have altered patterns that have been with us for millions of years.

In his book Curing Affluenza, Richard Denniss, Chief Economist of The Australia Institute, calls on us to think and act differently about our limited resources: to cherish materialism over consumerism.

Gergis and Denniss will join local ABC Radio National Breakfast producer Gregg Borschmann in a conversation that challenges the way we think.

Cracking Climate by Cracking Consumption is on Saturday 28 April from 1pm–2pm at the Blue Mountains Library & Cultural Centre in Katoomba. Tickets are $20 and $17.50 for concession. Online bookings are now open at 2018 Varuna & Sydney Writers’ Festival.
