Spring has definitely sprung and the new season stone fruit has arrived! Look out for cherries, mangoes, peaches, nectarines and plums, as well as juicy kiwis and very affordable strawberries. We have the makings of some delicious fruit salads.
Look out for local basil and asparagus from Dave Sikora at Bathurst and all manner of things green and nutritious from our local garden guru Steve Alton.

BROAD BEANS: HOW TO PREPARE
6th November, 2014

Broad beans: to peel, to double peel, or not to peel?

Very young broad beans can be cooked, pod and all, in a stir fry or a soup. The larger, older, pods need to be removed before cooking to reveal the beans inside. LOCAL EXOTIC FOOD GARDEN
30th September, 2014

Betty and Warwick with their figs from last autumn

Betty and Warwick have been bringing their wonderful fruits and vegetables to the Co-op for many years, including citrus, greens, fresh figs, persimmons and curry leaves. Their produce comes from the gardens of their 13 acre property, half of which is native bushland. When Betty and Warwick moved to the property 13 years ago the ‘garden’ around the  house was all lawn and the only established trees were some gums and a collection of palm trees. It’s great to seen how quickly a garden can produce so much food and flowers! Betty took me on a tour of the garden and shared some of her experiences of gardening in the mid to lower mountains.
